ISQBP Award in Computational Biology The ISQBP Award in Computational Biology is given biannually at the President’s Meeting to an individual that has performed high-quality research in a field of interest to the ISQBP and has served the society or the interests of the society. Awardees present a plenary lecture at the meeting and receive a plaque commemorating the award. ISQBP Loew Lectureship The ISQBP Loew Lectureship was established by the society in 2004 to honor the memory of Gilda Loew. Awardees are individuals that have performed high-quality research in a field of interest to the ISQBP with emphasis on those areas of research of particular interest to Gilda Loew. Awardees present a plenary lecture at the biannual ISQBP President’s Meeting and receive a plaque commemorating the award. Loew Memorial Fund Started with a generous donation to the Society by Prof. Gregory Loew, Gilda’s husband, the Loew Memorial Fund was established. Many others contributed to the Fund, which is still open for additional donations. Proceeds are used to support the ISQBP Loew Lectureship and for sponsored support of the attendance of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at ISQBP events, to memorialize Gilda's special interest in the development of the followup generation of researchers in our field. Gilda Loew Memorial Meeting The Gilda Loew Memorial Meeting was held on October 5-8, 2005 at the CUNY College of Staten Island, New York, USA. A collection of over 20 speakers, including Barry Honig, Walter Thiel, Harold Scheraga, Benoit Roux and Tamar Schlick presented talks on a variety of subjects selected based on the research interests of Gilda Loew. Topic included cytochome P450s and Drug Metabolism, Protein and DNA Structure, Membrane Proteins, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. Approximately 50 people attended, many of whom presented posters. The interactive format of the meeting, a hallmark of ISQBP events, allowed for extensive interactions between all that attended. At the meeting luncheon, Prof. Gregory Loew, Gilda’s husband, made a contribution to the ISQBP Gilda Loew Memorial Fund. Special thanks to Marco Ceruso, Ruth Stark, Nigel Richards and Harel Weinstein for their efforts in organizing the meeting. More information on the meeting may be obtained via the meeting web site
